Mission
The Note‑Ables is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit senior community choir composed of and serving retirees in Harris and Galveston counties. We provide free musical performances to enrich the lives of all ages through live choral music and community engagement.
Who We Serve
We perform to senior living communities, memory‑care units, assisted‑living centers, hospitals (including mental health & children wards) and community groups. Many in our audience face anxiety, depression, isolation, mobility limitations, or cognitive challenges. Live music provides emotional stimulation, social connection, and moments of joy that are otherwise rare in their daily lives.
Who We Are
Our choir is composed of 55+ seniors, most are retirees—on fixed incomes—who volunteer their time, talent, and energy. Members rehearse weekly, perform regularly, and cover their own dues and expenses to keep the organization running.
Community Impact
In addition to performing for specific groups, we partner with local school choirs and young musicians each year to present a free community concert in May, where attendees are invited to bring a package of infant diapers. These donations have increased to 9,000-10,000 diapers per event. In 2024, The Note-Ables supplied enough diapers to meet summer needs for both Interfaith Caring Ministries (ICM) and Cheery Cheeks Diaper Ministry (part of 1st Presbyterian Church in Dickinson). Our concerts strengthen community ties, support local families, and demonstrate the power of seniors giving back.
Our History
The Note-Ables originally were a project of the Houston Symphony starting around 2001. We operated under the Houston Symphony which provided funding for our choral group. Unfortunately, this was discontinued during 2020 when COVID limited social access. To continue its mission in 2021, the Note-Ables became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community choir. Our proven, grassroots organization has an extensive community outreach in both Galveston and Harris counties. Our mission is to offer an opportunity to improve quality of life for older adults, foster intergenerational connection and bring the art and joy of music directly to people who cannot access them otherwise.
